Welcome to La Fournette

La Fournette traces its origins to Alsace, to the Zimmermann family bakery in Schnersheim, France. It is there that the Zimmermann family developed over four generations (110 years!) the expertise and craftsmanship for which they are reputed. On coming to Chicago in 2010, World Baking Champion Pierre Zimmermann and his wife, Michele, began to conceive of a bakery both distinctly Alsatian and uniquely Chicagoan, with quality, affordable, and accessible products.

As was true of their founding bakery in Alsace, France, where the village markets dictated the daily offerings, La Fournette’s products are respectful of the seasons and local produce. Crusty, aromatic, and flavorful; the way bread is supposed to be. Almost all of our breads contain natural sourdough starters, it results in superior flavor and natural conservation.
